Why Bill Self Wants a Home-and-Home Series with Duke

NCAA Basketball: Texas Christian at Kansas

Ahead of Kansas‘ non-conference matchup vs. No. 12 Duke, head coach Bill Self discussed their upcoming opponent and some future scheduling plans.

When asked about the possibility of coaching at Cameron Indoor Stadium, Self mentioned that he wants to hold a home-and-home series with the Blue Devils in the near future.

“I’d love to go home and home with Duke like we do with North Carolina,” Self said. “I think that would be great. I haven’t been there. That would be obviously a bucket list thing for all coaches to do, just like it would be a bucket list thing for them to come here as well.”

While often times college basketball teams will schedule weak opponents in the non-conference schedule to get things right before facing tougher competition, in 2024-25, that couldn’t be further from Bill Self’s plans.

The matchup with Duke is the second of three Top 25 non-conference matchups for the Jayhawks, with Kansas taking on No. 10 North Carolina (92-89 Win), No. 12 Duke, and No. 14 Creighton. The squad also has the pleasure of facing off against three other power opponents, including Michigan State, NC State, and Missouri.

Despite the tough schedule, Kansas has thrived, advancing to a perfect 5-0 record against Howard, North Carolina, Michigan State, Oakland, and UNCW.

While a home-and-home series with Duke may take some time before anything goes into effect, if it were up to Bill Self, the Blue Devils and Jayhawks would clash on a yearly basis.
