While first-year head coaches don’t typically walk into a new program with the ‘win now’ tag, Arizona head coach Brent Brennan fell into that category.

Unfortunately for Brennan, winning has not been in the cards for the 2024 college football season. With the college football regular season coming to an end, fans of the Arizona Wildcats have already begun to wonder about a possible buyout for Brennan.

According to a report from Arizona Desert Swarm’s Brian J. Pederson, Brennan’s first-year buyout is set at a hefty tag of $10 million dollars.

If the team were to hold onto Brennan for the foreseeable future, his contract buyout would drop significantly each year that he’s with the program. The price tag drops to 7.5 million in the second year, $4.5 million in the third, $2 million in the fourth, and $500,000 in the final year of his contract. If Brennan were to be fired within the first two years of his deal, he’s owed 100% of the contract money the two parties agreed on, and that number drops to 70% of the contract during the final three years of the deal.

Arizona was picked to finish fifth in the Preseason Big 12 Media Poll and was also included on the initial AP Top 25 ahead of the 2024 season. Things took a turn quickly for the Wildcats as the team sits in 14th place in the league with an overall record of 4-7 and 2-6 in league play.

Arizona lost to TCU on Saturday in Week 13 by a score of 49-28.
