Following a massive win in Week 13 over the BYU Cougars, Arizona State saw its odds of winning the College Football Playoff Championship Game spike dramatically.
The Sun Devils have the best odds of any Big 12 team to win the National Championship, currently listed at +7500.
The upset win over then-ranked No. 14 BYU positioned Kenny Dillingham’s squad in the driver’s seat if they can take of Arizona in their Week 14 regular-season finale.
ASU headlines a list of four possible Big 12 Championship winners on the list with +7500 odds to win the title, followed by Colorado at 200/1, and BYU and Iowa State remain off the board. Despite the sportsbook offering odds for just four possible CFP contenders from the Big 12, there are a total of eight different teams that could still make their way to Arlington.
The four front-runners are Arizona State, BYU, Colorado, and Iowa State, however, if things in the modern world of tie-breakers work out just right, any combination of Kansas State, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Baylor, or TCU could reach the game and earn an invite to the CFP with a win.
While the Big 12 Conference has been the most exciting conference championship race in America this season, the inverse of having a lot of parity begins to take a toll with at-large bid conversations. The Big 12’s top-ranked teams (four in the AP Poll) all have at least two losses on the year, which clouds things for the College Football Playoff Committee.
Regardless, Arizona State should be considered the front-runner to make the Playoff out of the Big 12 Conference.
