Le’Veon Bell Takes a Shot at Travis Hunter in Heisman Race

NCAA Football: Colorado at Central Florida

With millions around the world discussing which athlete should win the Heisman in 2024, many have chimed in on behalf of both Travis Hunter and Ashton Jeanty.

One such party is former NFL running back Le’Veon Bell, who made his stance known on social media, tearing down Travis Hunter’s Heisman campaign.

If Ashton Jeanty doesn’t win Heisman, I won’t watch another college football game,” Bell said. “He’s the most electrifying player in all of college football. May not be the most “POPULAR,” but is Heisman a popularity contest? This kid’s stats are unreal, and he’s the BEST at his position.”

Bell responded to a graphic comparing Jeanty’s 2024 season to Derek Henry’s Heisman-winning season in 2015. Jeanty leads Henry in every stat except for games played (13-11) and carries (339-275). Jeanty has already passed Henry in the other three categories despite playing two fewer games. Those include rushing yards (2062-1986), yards per carry (7.5-5.9), and yards per game (187.5-152.8).

Hunter’s campaign, while rather impressive, has received flak for the bulk of the argument circling around total snaps played and Pro Football Focus position grades. On the field, however, Hunter has eclipsed the 1000-yard receiving mark with 82 grabs for 1,036 yards and 11 touchdowns, all while being Colorado’s best player in the secondary. He adds 30 tackles, nine pass breakups, one forced fumble, and three interceptions on the year.

While Hunter is currently viewed as the Heisman favorite, both parties have a lot at stake in the final week of the regular season.
