The battle between Mike Gundy and Colorado fans has been captivating the world of college sports ahead of Oklahoma State’s Week 14 matchup with the Buffaloes, with many in Boulder paying attention to Gundy for the first time this fall.
On Monday, Gundy was asked about the NFL’s influence on Colorado’s squad, which prompted a quote that fired up the Colorado fanbase due to his patented Mike Gundy delivery.
Gundy was asked if he saw the NFL imprint on Colorado’s team, with both offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and defensive coordinator Robert Livingston having prominent NFL experience.
“No,” Gundy said. “Traditional spread college system on offense. Spread ’em out, and if you get the time, you’ll chase ’em around, and he’s [Shedeur Sanders] good at making plays. Defensively, they’re playing two-deep and cover one. Playing four down, play the three-technique to the back. I mean, it’s traditional college.”
While the Cowboys have looked rough this fall in league play, the team is coming off their best performance to date in Week 13. Despite losing a 56-48 shootout to Texas Tech, the team posted their season-high in points and yards with 48 scored and 508 total yards of offense.
Colorado enters the week in need of some help to reach the Big 12 Championship Game due to the logjam at the top of the league. With a win over Oklahoma State, Colorado fans would then hope for some upsets in the final week of the regular season.
Colorado and Oklahoma State kick off the Week 14 matchup in Boulder on Friday, November 29th, at 11:00 a.m. CT.
