Kansas defeated Duke 75-72 in the Vegas Showdown on Tuesday night, giving the Jayhawks their third win over a perennial power this season — having already taken down North Carolina and Michigan State earlier in the year.
The massive win, however, was overshadowed by Hunter Dickinson’s fragrant-2 foul and ejection after he kicked Duke’s Maliq Brown in the head midway through the second quarter.
Given Hunter Dickinson‘s somewhat controversial history, this sent the college basketball world into a frenzy on Tuesday night.
Immediately, social media threads sharing their displeasure with Dickinson’s antics started populating X, drawing all kinds of attention from fans and media alike.
Jay Williams, a former Duke Blue Devil, and current ESPN college basketball analyst shared his thoughts on the play, labeling it “dirty” in his own social media post.
Despite playing the final 10 minutes of the game without their star center, Kansas held on to win thanks to big-time performances from Dajuan Harris Jr. (14 points) and Zeke Mayo (12 points).
The 75-72 victory moves the Jayhawks to 7-0 on the season. They’ll be back in action on Saturday against Furman, and then they’ll gear up for another ranked matchup against No. 21 Creighton on Wednesday.
