Welcome to Fact or Fiction Friday. Each Friday, I allow our Facebook and message board fans to ask the most intriguing questions in the Big 12, and I will tell you whether they come true or are set to fail. Now, let’s crack open this week’s list and see what we have in store ahead of week 14. Also, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I think I am still full.
Conferences Should Change Their Scheduling Format
Fact: First off, every team in college football should be playing the same number of conference games (looking at you, SEC). In fact, one could argue that we should play ten conference games and have two non-conference games instead of three to help with all these crazy tiebreakers. But you know what else could fix some of these issues? Bring back divisions, or maybe try something new, like four-team pods. I am sick of seeing some of these teams win ten or more games and don’t beat anyone with a pulse. It needs to be fixed.
Oklahoma State Will Beat Colorado
Fiction: The one concern I do have is Colorado’s attitude towards this game. That loss last weekend to Kansas was devastating because it just about ended their Big 12 title hopes. While they still could technically find their way into Arlington, their chances are slim to none because they would need so much help. With that said, Colorado is still a good football team, and Oklahoma State is not. The Cowboys have been so bad defensively all season long, and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders will pick them apart. And Colorado’s defense is good enough to contain Oklahoma State’s offense. While I do think this game will be closer than people think, I am still taking the Buffaloes at home.
The Big 12 Will Not Have a Playoff Team
Fiction: There was some talk of that possibly happening, but I never bought into it. The Big 12 is one of the four power conferences, and I could just never wrap my mind around the idea of a Power Four champion getting left out of the playoff. Army and Tulane were two teams with a slight chance to finish higher than the Big 12 champion, but Army was destroyed by Notre Dame last weekend, and Tulane lost to Memphis on Thursday night to end their hopes. Nobody is standing in the way of the Big 12 champion and a playoff spot. The concern isn’t whether a Big 12 team will get in; it’s whether they’ll get the first-round bye instead of Boise State.
Iowa State Will Make the Playoff
Fact: Let me start by saying I believe the Cyclones will win this weekend and make it to Jerry World to play Arizona State for a Big 12 title. That will be an interesting matchup, but I trust Iowa State’s defense to slow down Arizona State’s rushing attack with Cam Skattebo. Plus, their secondary is good enough to keep up with the weapons Arizona State has as well. The real battle will be Iowa State’s offense against Arizona State’s defense. The Cyclones have enough firepower offensively, and when it comes between the two quarterbacks, I like Rocco Becht. he has shown that he is capable of making plays in crunch time. Give me the Cyclones to win the Big 12 and make the College Football Playoff.
Green Bean Casserole Is The Worst Thanksgiving Side
Fiction: I know that I have had some interesting food take over the years, and DOTS being my favorite Halloween candy nearly made people despise me, but I am not the weird one here. Green Bean Casserole is one of the best sides at Thanksgiving. It’s creamy, it’s dreamy, and I just love those crispy onions on top. It just complements everything so well on my plate with the turkey, dressing, etc. The people who don’t like green bean casserole are the crazy ones, not me.
