The first domino has fallen for a decisive weekend in the Big 12 Championship race, and it was a big one.
There weren’t many folks out there who believed Oklahoma State would go into Boulder and beat Colorado, but less than a minute into that contest, it was clear that the Pokes had no shot of pulling off that upset.
Sixty minutes later, Colorado had won 52-0 and moved to 9-3 on the season, putting themselves in position to potentially move into the Big 12 Championship – that is if things end up falling in their favor.
While the Buffs will have to wait and see what happens on Saturday, there are a few teams that are now officially out of the Big 12 race with Colorado’s win.
According to the 2024 Dr. Pepper Big 12 Football Championship Tiebreakers Central, a total of nine teams came into Friday with a chance of making the conference title game, but with Colorado finishing 7-2 in Big 12 play, TCU, Texas Tech, and West Virginia are out of the race.
That shortens the list of contenders to just six, with Arizona State, Baylor, BYU, Colorado, Iowa State, and Kansas State.
All six of those teams will play on Saturday, as Arizona State is on the road at Arizona, Baylor hosts Kansas, Iowa State and Kansas State will play in Ames, and BYU hosts Houston to end the regular season.
