While it is typically common practice for tempers to flare during rivalry games, the post-game squabble between Michigan and Ohio State may take the cake for rivalry of the year.
After Michigan’s 13-10 upset win, several members of the Wolverines started a fight by planting their flag at midfield, which eventually led to police stepping in and pepper spraying athletes.
After the fourth down conversion attempt fell short for Ohio State, the Michigan Wolverines kneeled the football before celebrating and taunting fans on the sidelines. The issue stemmed into midfield, where the two teams met to shake hands.
Shortly after the postgame huddle, one player from Michigan ran onto the Ohio State logo, waving the Wolverines flag, and attempted to plant it at midfield. Several Buckeyes took offense to the action and responded by pushing, shoving, and fighting with Michigan.
The situation heated up quickly, which called for several law enforcement members to step in and attempt to separate the two teams. The action fell short, as seen above, which resulted in officers pulling out pepper spray and using it on multiple athletes on the field.
As shown by RedditCFB, one officer can be seen threatening to spray several Michigan players, and another actively using it on those involved in the scrum.
While this likely won’t be the last time fans hear of the pepper spraying incident, it will be the last time these two teams meet face-to-face in 2024.
