Just one week after ESPN’s College GameDay crew was getting torched for blatant disrespect of the Big 12 Conference, on Saturday, Nick Saban made sure to lean into damage control.
Saban accomplished this by spending extra time discussing Arizona vs. Arizona State to highlight one of his favorite players in college football: senior running back Cam Skattebo.
“That Cam Skattbo guy,” Saban said. “That’s gotta be my favorite player in college football, man. This guy is rugged and tough, and I just love a great competitor, and he’s all that.”
Skattebo’s impressive play this year has been a major factor in Arizona State’s uptick in play as the senior running back continues to stack up accolades. In 2024, the California native has recorded 226 carries for 1,221 yards with 14 touchdowns on the ground and two in the passing game.
Skattebo’s path to prominence has been one of the best stories in college football as a true workhouse that emerged on his own. An underrecruited player coming out of high school, Skattebo chose to commit to Sacramento State, one of two collegiate offers he received. After two seasons with the program, the zero-star recruit transferred to Arizona State and made a name for himself as a key piece of Kenny Dillingham’s squad.
Now, in arms reach of the Big 12 Championship Game, Skattebo has given fans even more to discuss in his fourth season of college football.
