An interesting situation began to unfold ahead of Kansas State’s season finale against Iowa State, with reports that sophomore wide receiver Jayce Brown planned to enter the transfer portal.
Brown played one of his best games of the year in the final game of the season, which led to many questioning his stance on Kansas State’s future.
When asked if he had discussed the situation with Brown, Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson mentioned that the two discussed the future and are actively working together to figure out a solution.
“Everybody knows that’s my guy,” Johnson said. “I want to continue to build what we started here.”
In the final regular season game of the year for Brown, the Florida native secured three catches for 106 yards and two scores to help the Wildcats battle back against Iowa State. On the season, Brown finished with 45 catches for 763 yards and five touchdowns.
Brown was an underrated pickup by Chris Klieman and his coaching staff, as the Wildcats were Brown’s lone Power Five offer when coming out of high school. Coming out of Choctawhatchee High School in the Class of 2025, Brown was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 1396th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 195th-ranked player at his position and the 185th-ranked player in the state of Florida.
Kansas State will take the field for one final time this fall in a bowl game, and as his position with the team remains up in the air, his potential inclusion or lack thereof in the bowl game will certainly speak volumes.
