Cincinnati Bearcats Lose Key Wide Receiver to Transfer Portal

NCAA Football: Houston at Cincinnati

On Monday, Scott Satterfield and the Cincinnati Bearcats lost a key member of the wide receiver room to the transfer portal.

That player is junior wide receiver Sterling Berkhalter, who led the team in yards per reception in 2024.

“I will be entering the Transfer portal as a Grad transfer for my final year,” Berkhalter said. “Thank you to the University of Cincinnati. Coming back home and playing for the hometown was a childhood dream come true. It’s up from here.”

Berkhalter joined the Bearcats in 2023 through the transfer portal after spending two years with North Carolina A&T. In his three years of college football, the Ohio native recorded 46 grabs for 667 yards and three scores. At UC, the junior wideout snagged 11 grabs for 191 yards and a score.

The roster move is likely one of many this offseason for Cincinnati after a second-straight disappointing season for Satterfield and company in the Big 12. Since moving from the American Athletic Conference in 2023, Cincinnati is 8-16 overall and 4-14 in league play. The team started hot in 2024 before turning a corner and dropping their final six games to miss out on bowl eligibility.

With Scott Satterfield approaching hot-seat territory, Berkhalter may be the start of a large wave of offseason departers at Cincinnati.
