On Monday, Lance Leipold and the Kansas Jayhawks added their second player through the transfer portal, senior running back Leshon Williams.
Williams flipped his commitment from Memphis to Kansas after electing to transfer from Iowa.
In his four-year career with the Hawkeyes, Williams recorded 319 carries for 1,324 yards and three touchdowns. In 2023, Williams led the team in rushing with 170 carries for 821 yards and entered the 2024 season as a big name for the Hawkeyes before losing his job to star running back Kaleb Johnson.
While the transfer portal has only been open for a few days, Johnson currently checks in as the second-ranked player at his position and the 25th-ranked overall player in the portal. Coming out of H L Richards High School in the Class of 2020, Williams was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 647th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 47th-ranked running back in his class and the 11th-ranked player in the state of Illinois.
The addition is a notable one for Kansas as the Jayhawks attempt to fill the void of graduating senior Devin Neal, who became the program’s all-time leading rusher in 2024. Williams heads to Lawrence as the projected starter for the 2025 season.
