On Monday, Kyle Whittingham and the Utah Utes flipped a key target in the Class of 2024 from Texas State.
That player is three-star quarterback Jamarian Ficklin, who elected to head to Salt Lake City after originally committing to Texas State on the Fourth of July.
Coming out of Muskogee High School in the Class of 2025, Ficklin is listed as a three-star prospect in the Class of 2025 by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 1083rd-ranked player. He also checks in as the 53rd-ranked player at his position and the 19th-ranked player in the state of Oklahoma.
An impressive player in his class, Ficklin received offers from 13 different programs, including Utah, Texas State, Utah State, UNLV, UTSA, Army, and more.
With his commitment, Ficklin became the 21st commitment in Utah’s 2025 class and the second quarterback of the group alongside three-star quarterback Wyatt Becker.
While freshman quarterbacks don’t typically see the field in their first year of college football, Utah fans found out this year just how quickly that notion can turn on its head. In 2024, the team lost multiple quarterbacks to season-ending injuries and saw four different quarterbacks in contention to start, including Cam Rising, Isaac Wilson, Sam Huard, and Brandon Rose, one of whom was a freshman.
Utah enters the offseason with some major questions on the roster and on the coaching staff, but for today, fans can rest easy with a positive addition.
