Watch: Bill Belichick’s Vague Answer About West Virginia Coaching Vacancy

After 24 seasons as the New England Patriots' head coach, Bill Belichick is trying his hand as a TV analyst.

One of the most interesting coaching searches in the country right now is the vacancy left at West Virginia following the firing of Neal Brown.

Many names have surfaced in the search, including Nick Saban, Rich Rodriguez, Jimbo Fisher, and Andy Kotelnicki, but one new name entered the fold on Monday afternoon.

That name is none other than legendary coach Bill Belichick, who provided a vague answer on the subject when asked by Pat McAfee on his show.

“Coach, there’s an opening at West Virginia,” McAfee said. “Are you applying to be the head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers?”

“I might talk to you about that, Pat,” Belichick said jokingly.

Though the addition of Belichick would be incredible for West Virginia and college football as a whole, the former Patriots head coach is expected to jump back into the NFL scene with multiple openings this year. The Mountaineers likely have kicked the tires on the idea because of the relevance of McAfee, a former Mountaineer, and his relationship with the legendary head coach.

“A lot of people want that job,” McAfee said on the search. “They don’t have me working the phones, but everybody who wants the job is calling me and asking for support. I got a chance to chat with Wren Baker yesterday a little bit, and I have faith in him.”

Belichick or not, the Mountaineers appear to be in contention with some high-profile names in college football as one of the premier available destinations in the sport.
