Arizona State (10-2) is preparing for one of its biggest games in school history, with the 2024 Big 12 Championship Game set for Saturday, December 7.
The Sun Devils will face Iowa State (10-2) in that game, but it will have to do so without one of its best players.
Earlier this week, Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham announced that wide receiver Jordyn Tyson would be out indefinitely, and would certainly miss the Big 12 title game.
Now, we know that Tyson will be forced to miss the postseason as well, as he had season-ending surgery on surgery to repair an undisclosed injury.
“We’re trying to get him back by next season and help him go from there,” Dillingham said Wednesday.
It’s a significant setback for the Sun Devils’ offense, as Tyson was the most dangerous receiving threat at ASU’s disposal. Before he was injured in the third quarter of the 49-7 win over Arizona last week, he had eight receptions for 143 yards and one touchdown.
Tyson finished the regular season ranked third in the Big 12 with 1,101 receiving yards, as well as sixth in receptions (75) and tied for second in receiving touchdowns (10).
“You don’t replace a guy like that. He’s a one-of-a-kind player and really special, (so) that’s not how we’re gonna approach it. We’re just gonna get the ball into other people’s hands in different ways,” ASU quarterback Sam Leavitt said. “(Offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo’s) got a really good plan for us, so we’re just gonna go out there and execute.”
No. 16 Arizona State (10-2) and No. 18 Iowa State (10-2) will play for the 2024 Big 12 Championship on Saturday, December 7, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
