Bill Belichick is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, and the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach could be back on the sideline before long.
However, there’s a catch: it could be in college football.
According to a report from Inside North Carolina, Belichick interviewed for the head coaching vacancy this week and is among a list of impressive candidates that the Tar Heels have interviewed since firing Mack Brown last month.
Could North Carolina really be the job that gets Belichick back on the sidelines?
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported back in September that Belichick would like to get back in the game in 2025, but “is expected to be choosy if and when he returns to the sideline.”
His name has been connected to some NFL jobs in recent weeks as well, as there’s been buzz about his name being tied to the Jacksonville Jaguars, even though Doug Pederson still occupies the head coach’s office there.
Maybe Belichick is looking for a change of scenery, and if that’s the case, the college game would certainly provide that opportunity.
As one of the most unpredictable people in the sports world, it would be unwise to put anything past Belichick, even if it does seem pretty far-fetched.
