On Thursday, Utah football announced that it has hired Jason Beck as the program’s next offensive coordinator.

Beck spent the 2024 season as the offensive coordinator for New Mexico, where he helped lead the Lobos to one of the best offensive seasons in the country. In 2024, UNM’s offense ranked fourth nationally in yards per game (484.3 ypg), as well as fifth in rushing offense (253.6 ypg) and fourth in the country in first downs (298).

Beck brings 16 years of coaching experience with him to Salt Lake City, and as of late, he’s put together quite an impressive resume, according to a press release from the school.

“Before his time in Albuquerque, Beck spent two seasons (2022-23) at Syracuse, serving as the quarterbacks coach both years while also getting promoted to offensive coordinator in 2023. Despite the Orange being plagued by injuries in 2023, he coached an offense to have a 1,000-yard rusher in LeQuint Allen with the program setting single-game records for total offense in a season opener (677) and the most rushing yards by Syracuse since 1996 in Week 10 (392).”

“During his time in charge of the quarterbacks in 2022, he saw Syracuse’s passing efficiency rating upgrade from 108th in the FBS in 2021 to 40th nationally and fourth in the ACC in one season. The Orange also finished the 2022 season ranked No. 2 in the ACC in red zone offense and seventh in passing offense.”

Prior to his time at Syracuse, Beck served as the quarterbacks coach at Virginia (2016-21) and at BYU (2013-15), where he played quarterback from 2004-06.

Beck will be replacing Andy Ludwig, who resigned from his play-calling duties back in October. The Utes finished the 2024 season with a 5-7 record, Kyle Whittingham’s first losing season since 2013.
