Kasey Dunn, a name that was brought up numerous times in the back half of the season by Oklahoma State fans who desperately hoped for a change.
When that change finally came, the Dunn family said their goodbyes to Stillwater, including Dunn’s daughter, Kayla Dunn, who penned an emotional goodbye to Oklahoma State.
In her message, Kayla Dunn seemed to imply that she had seen the writing on the walls and that her father would soon be out of a job.
“And so I figured this Homecoming would be our last, and we made the most of it,” Dunn wrote. “Clay swing-danced with Mom during half-time; we drank, ate, and giggled in Dad’s office. And after the game, we drunkenly ran through the whole stadium in the rain. The locker room, team room, weight room, the field, the suites, the roof… We left at midnight, laughing and screaming and sprinting to The Strip. I really like knowing that we left smiling. I like that we said goodbye in the softest way.”
Oklahoma State’s Homecoming game ended up a 42-21 loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils in Stillwater, a game that many saw as the breaking point for Kasey Dunn’s offense. The loss featured multiple quarterbacks under center, with Alan Bowman and Maealiuaki Smith both seeing action, which resulted in just 270 yards of total offense compared to ASU’s 529.
Dunn’s group was a large part of Mike Gundy’s first winless season in league play, as the group ranked near the bottom of the league in multiple statistical categories.
Oklahoma State fans now find themselves without both major coordinators after the duo of Kasey Dunn and Bryan Nardo were fired, and now, the team appears to be backing Mike Gundy into a tough decision about his future in Stillwater.
