The Kansas Jayhawks will welcome back Jalon Daniels for a sixth season of college football as the quarterback is set to return to KU on a new deal, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
The 2025 college football season will be the last for Jalon Daniels, who started off the 2024 season slower than expected, after missing much of the 2023 season due to injury. But he finished strong as he got back into a groove and comfortable under new offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes.

Daniels threw for 2,454 yards this season, with 14 touchdowns to 12 interceptions, while rushing for 447 yards and nine scores. In the second half of the season when KU went 4-2, Daniels threw seven touchdowns to four interceptions and rushed for three scores. KU started off 1-5, but rallied in the second half to finish the season with a 5-7 record.
Daniels participated in Senior Day festivities in late November when KU played Colorado, which led the speculation that his career at KU was likely over. But thankfully for Jayhawks fans, Daniels either had a change of heart, or KU stepped up its offer.
For his career, he’s thrown for 6,751 yards, completing 61.3% of his passes and throwing 45 touchdowns to 24 interceptions.
He currently ranks second in all-time passing yardage in Kansas football history, behind Todd Reesing. Daniels also owns the record for the most passing yards for a single game in KU program history (Arkansas–Liberty Bowl–2022 (544 passing yards).
Kansas’ 2025 football schedule includes a non-conference slate of Fresno State, Wagner (FCS) and Missouri.
