During the Championship Weekend broadcast of ESPN’s College GameDay, Nick Saban provided a hilarious moment with his former rivals.
Saban called out a pair of SEC coaches, Kirby Smart and Steve Sarkisian, for their coach speak in the pregame segment.
Both coaches went to their usual coach-speak approach to answer a question from Rece Davis about the mentality it takes to adjust in a rematch game. Smart spoke first, saying, “I don’t think you overthink it. I think you try to do simple better. Block and tackle. Everybody wants to make it about the scheme, but a lot of times it comes down to the players, not the scheme.”
Sarkisian followed up Smart’s statement with a generic response of his own, saying, “I think you hit the nail on the head. We use the analogy ‘you never want to get paralysis by analysis. When you overanalyze, then your players aren’t performing the way they can play. Take in the information, then try to prepare them to go play.”
Saban then jokingly called out his former Alabama assists, Smart and Sarkisian, saying, “Well, I think they’re both bullsh**ing us.”
The moment went viral on social media as the trio of SEC legends continued to chop it up ahead of the SEC title game.
While Saban may have mastered the art of coach-speak, his assistants turned head coaches appear to be carrying the flag with grace.
