The West Virginia Mountaineers are headed to the Frisco Bowl later this month to take on the Memphis Tigers, according to the Action Network’s Brett McMurphy.
The game is set for Tuesday, December 17th, at 8:00 p.m. central. The game will be at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
West Virginia is coming off a year that saw the firing of veteran head coach Neal Brown. The Mountaineers struggled in conference play but made a bowl game with a 6-6 overall record. The team finished with wins over Albany, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Cincinnati, and UCF, which resulted in zero Top 25 wins.
Meantime, Memphis finished their season off at 10-2, with a fourth-place finish in the American Athletic Conference. The team finished conference play with a 6-2 record, with losses coming against Navy and UTSA. Memphis is no stranger to matchups against Big 12 teams, as the group took down Iowa State in the Liberty Bowl in 2023.
Colorado has played in 40 bowl games and has a 17-23 record in those games. The Mountaineers have now reached bowl eligibility in back-to-back seasons as the team took down North Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl to cap off 2023.
The Frisco Bowl matchup between Memphis and West Virginia marks the first meeting between the two teams in program history.
