The Oklahoma State Cowboys are looking for a new offensive and defensive coordinator, and at least one of those roles have now been filled after Mike Gundy hired Todd Grantham to be the new defensive coordinator.
Grantham was most recently the New Orleans Saints’ defensive line coach. He’s also spent time as a coordinator with the Cleveland Browns (2005-07), Georgia (2010-13), Louisville (2014-16), Mississippi State (2017) and Florida (2018-21). Robert Allen and Chris Low first reported the news.
Oklahoma State’s defense was awful in 2024. The Cowboys gave up the most rushing yards per game in the Big 12 (215.0), which was 35 per game than anyone else in the conference. The pass defense was the second worst in the Big 12 (285.6 ypg). The Cowboys also gave up the most points per game (35.6) in the Big 12.

Before his time with the Saints, Grantham spent time under Nick Saban as an analyst at Alabama in 2022. And that wasn’t his first time working under arguably the greatest college football coach ever.
Grantham is a Virginia Tech alum, and he coached there from 1990 to 1995. He took the same role at Michigan State in 1996 — where Saban was the head coach. Grantham worked his way up to Saban’s assistant head coach in 1998.
