The first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff field is set and in just a matter of days the first round of the action will get underway on four lucky campuses spanning from Austin (TX) to University Park (PA).

Teams seeded fifth through eighth will host the No. 9 through No. 12 seeds in the opening round, and the excitement for those games is through the roof.

The cheapest ticket for No. 10 Indiana vs. No. 7 Notre Dame is currently $775, while the lowest-priced ticket of the bunch is SMU vs. Penn State, with a get-in-the-gate tag of $103.

While you might be saving a little on tickets to watch Penn State vs. SMU, your bottom mine is going to feel it if you decide to stay near State College that week.

Audrey Snyder, who covers Penn State football for The Athletic, shared this on X yesterday, showing the price of a room at a Marriott or Fairfield Inn the weekend of the home playoff game.

Don’t get me wrong, I like a comfortable hotel room close to the stadium as much as the next guy, but $1,700 per night?!

Considering the average price for a one-night stay in a hotel is $150, that’s a bit steep. What’s even crazier is that both hotels in this post required a two-night minimum at that price.

SMU might have a wealthy fan base and booster club, but this takes gouging to a whole new level.
