While it’s no secret that Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo has become one of the nation’s premier athletes to watch in college football, on Tuesday, ESPN’s Pat McAfee cemented his status as one of the nation’s best.
McAfee and his crew on the Pat McAfee show raved about Skattebo’s incredible 2024 season and showed highlights dating back to his days at Rio Linda High School.
“Cam Skattebo, holy sh**,” McAfee said. “He said, ‘I’m the best running back in the country.’ I love that. I love that mindset. We watched him break how many tackles in a high school football game? 12? And he’s been doing that here at Arizona State as well. He’s got moxy and a thumping head. He’s got a massive head. This dude’s unbelievable.”
Skattebo’s numbers in 2024 were otherworldly, with many believing he was snubbed as a Heisman finalist in New York. The blank native was the best running back in the Big 12 Conference, a league littered with NFL running backs.
In 2024, Skattebo posted 1,568 yards on 263 carries with 19 touchdowns. He also found the end zone three times as a pass catcher with 506 receiving yards through the air.
While Skattebo’s season has been continually overlooked by most in the mainstream media until the last few weeks of the season, he enters the College Football Playoff as one of the biggest names to know in the country.
