Matt Campbell continues to prove his loyalty to Cyclone Nation after agreeing to another contract extension with Iowa State through 2032.
Iowa State is fresh off its first 10-win season in the program’s 133-year history and its seventh bowl game in nine seasons. The new eight-year contract will keep him in Ames through December 31, 2032.
“My family and I are extremely grateful for the faith and commitment shown to our program by our President, Dr. Wintersteen, and our Athletics Director, Jamie Pollard,” Campbell said in a statement on Wednesday. “It is an honor to be associated with a great university and community, and I am thankful to work with great leaders, administrators and student-athletes. I look forward to finishing the 2024 season strong while continuing to grow this program and pursuing excellence in the classroom and on the field.”
The Cyclones reached the Big 12 Championship last week in Arlington, Texas, which they lost to the Arizona State Sun Devils 45-19.
Despite overtures from bigger college programs and even the NFL, Campbell has stayed loyal and built the culture to be one of the best in college football. He just finished his ninth season with the Cyclones and reached his second Big 12 Championship Game in the last five seasons.
Overall, Campbell is 63-51 at Iowa State and 45-36 in Big 12 play.

This past season, Campbell became the winningest coach in Iowa State football history. The record-breaking win came in a 20-0 victory over Houston, which broke the previous record of 56 wins by Dan McCarney.
Campbell and the Cyclones began the year 4-0, which hasn’t been done at Iowa State since 2000. He is a three-time Big 12 football coach of the year in 2017, 2018 and 2020.
Rocco Becht Returning
It was also announced on Wednesday that Iowa State will retain quarterback Rocco Becht, who won’t be entering the transfer portal, according to Action Network‘s Brett McMurphy.
McMurphy cites Iowa State’s “loyalty and culture” under head coach Matt Campbell.
Becht just wrapped up his third season in Ames and second season as the starting quarterback. He finished with 3,235 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions, while completing 59% of his passes. He also rushed for 295 yards and seven scores.
Rocco Becht and the Cyclones are now set to play in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against the Miami Hurricanes. The game will take place on December 28th in Orlando, Florida and kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
