On Friday, Chris Klieman and the Kansas State Wildcats lost a key player to the transfer portal, with junior wide receiver Keagan Johnson leaving the program.
Johnson joined the Wildcats after starting his career with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Johnson spent two seasons in Iowa City before his two seasons in Manhattan.
“Thank you, Kansas State and the community of Manhattan, for the overwhelming support during my time as a Wildcat,” Johnson wrote on X. “I will forever cherish my time here, and I will keep these memories forever. With that being said, I have decided to enter the transfer portal. Thank you, God!”
Johnson committed to Kansas State through the transfer portal in 2022 and was a high-profile name that was slated to be one of Will Howard’s top targets. Injuries kept Johnson from making that idea a reality, as he now hits the transfer portal after two up-and-down years in the Big 12.
In two seasons with the program, Johnson recorded 53 catches for 586 yards and three touchdowns. In 2024, Johnson posted his best season to date with 29 grabs for 359 yards and a score.
Kansas State has now seen multiple impact receivers hit the transfer portal this offseason, and with the team down two of their top three targets (Keagan Johnson and Tre Spivey) in 2024, the Wildcats will likely be heavy players in the transfer portal on the hunt for wideouts.
