On Saturday, Matt Campbell and the Iowa State Cyclones added a new name to their transfer portal class with the addition of East Carolina wideout Chase Sowell.
Sowell, a 6-foot-4 receiver from Humble, Texas, spent the first two years at East Carolina, where he developed into the team’s best receiver.
“East Carolina transfer wide receiver Chase Sowell has committed to Iowa State,” ESPN’s Max Olson wrote. “The 6-foot-4 wideout put up 1,300 receiving yards and 4 TDs in 2 seasons with the Pirates. The former Colorado transfer has two more seasons of eligibility.”
In three seasons of college football, Sowell has been impressive out wide. After recording just two catches in his first year of college football, Sowell transferred to ECU, where he posted 81 grabs for 1300 yards and four scores in two seasons.
The move helps to fill two of the Cyclones’ biggest losses from the 2024 team, with both star wide receivers Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins expected to move on to the NFL. The pass-catching due paved the way to a big season for sophomore signal caller Rocco Becht, who completed more than 150 passes for 2200+ yards to the duo.
Iowa State takes on Miami in the Pop-Tarts Bowl on December 28th at 2:30 p.m. central on ABC.
