While it’s no secret that Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire is an incredible recruiter, his work this offseason in the transfer portal has been nothing short of incredible.
On Saturday, the Red Raiders added multiple big-name prospects, with the latest being Northern Illinois defensive tackle Skyler Gill-Howard.
In two seasons with the Huskies, Gill-Howard emerged as one of the best defensive players in the MAC. He recorded a total of 72 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and one pass breakup in his first two years of collegiate football.
While the Wisconsin native was an unranked prospect when coming out of Greenfield High School in the Class of 2022, he worked his way into a Top 15 player at his position in the transfer portal rankings from 247Sports. He currently checks in as the 119th-ranked overall player in his class and the 14th-ranked player at his position this offseason.
With the addition, the rich get richer in the case of Joey McGuire’s portal haul, as the group currently holds the nation’s top-ranked class. The Red Raiders have added a total of six prospects this offseason, including Skylar Gill-Howard, Mississippi State’s Bryce Pollock, Miami Ohio’s Reggie Virgil, Illinois State’s Hunter Zambrano, Charlotte’s Dontae Balfour, and North Dakota State’s Cole Wisniewski.
