The transfer portal can be a cold place, and Utah fans are finding that out with the possibility of seeing one of their own transfer to an in-conference rival.
That player is junior linebacker Sione Fotu, who has planned portal visits to three schools, two of which are current members of the Big 12 Conference.
In addition to a visit to Utah State, Fotu mentioned his plans of seeing “Houston next week and then Arizona State, for sure.”
The Utah native started three games for the Utes this fall and recorded a total of 19 tackles and two pass breakups. Against Baylor, Fotu had a career-high seven tackles in the Week 2 win, which would turn out to be an impressive victory at the season’s end.
Coming out of Bingham High School in the Class of 2020, Fotu was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 1043rd-ranked player. He also checked in as the 36th-ranked player at his position and the seventh-ranked prospect in the state of Utah.
Fotu spent the last three seasons under Kyle Whittingham in Utah and will look for a new home in the near future. While Houston may be in need of some new names at the linebacker position, Arizona State should have all the momentum in the recruitment with their impressive season at hand.
