Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys brought a new player to town through the transfer portal by way of their in-state rival, Oklahoma.
That player is freshman running back Kalib Hicks, who elected to leave the Sooners for the Cowboys in the transfer portal.
Hicks didn’t see much time in his freshman season in Norman, only recording two carries for 11 yards. The redshirt freshman committed to Oklahoma in the Class of 2023 and spent the past two years as a Sooner.
Coming out of Ryan High School in the Class of 2023, Hicks was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 543rd-ranked player. He also checked in as the 38th-ranked player at his position and the 84th-ranked player in the state of Texas.
An impressive player in his class, Hicks chose the Sooners over offers from 23 different programs, including Alabama, Colorado, Auburn, Kansas, Miami, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, and more.
He adds some much-needed depth at the running back position for the Cowboys as the team’s multi-year starter, Ollie Gordon, departs for the NFL. Gordon spent the previous two seasons as Oklahoma State’s workhorse back in Kasey Dunn’s offense, but with Dunn and Gordon both out the door in Stillwater, the team is bringing in a new era of running back.
