Following the decision to dismiss Achor Achor from the 2024-25 Kansas State basketball team, rumors circulated on social media about another player suffering a similar fate.
That player is Michigan transfer guard Dug McDaniel, who many believed had been removed from the team due to locker room issues in Manhattan.
On Monday, Jerome Tang discussed McDaniel in his weekly press conference, saying, “Dug is doing fine.” He also added that McDaniel had been “really good in practice” following the St. John’s loss.
“I don’t know why there’s speculation out there about that,” Tang said. “I guess Dug’s body language probably shows a lot in games, and we’re talking to him about it, but he was, for the most part, really good at practice. We’ve had team meetings with guys, and we talked about shot selection, and I really feel like the guys have bought into what we want to do moving forward.”
“Dug and I, we have a good relationship,” Tang continued. “I wouldn’t say it’s a great relationship, but it’s okay because the Bible says that iron sharpens iron. When two pieces of iron hit each other, there’s going to be sparks, and that’s alright. It’s just about how we can continue to move forward, and Dug has been great.”
McDaniel and the Wildcats have gotten off to a slow start this fall, and the road ahead appears to be even tougher than before. The Wildcats take on (No. 45 NET) Drake and (No. 92 NET) Wichita State in back-to-back games in December.
Kansas State takes the court next on Tuesday, December 17th, at 7:00 p.m. central vs. Drake at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City.
