Kansas Football Beats In-State Rival for Coveted OL Transfer

NCAA Football: Kansas State at Kansas

On Monday evening, Lance Leipold and the Kansas Jayhawks added a big name to the transfer portal class with the commitment of Tulsa offensive lineman Jack Tanner.

Tanner, a 6-foot-6 freshman from Highland Village, Texas, chose the Jayhawks over their in-state rival Kansas State.

“Overall, Coach Agpalsa and his staff recruited me the hardest out of any school, which makes me feel that he will project the same effort into developing me for the next level,” Tanner told 247Sports’ Michael Swain. “The opportunity to play at my mother’s Alma Mater is unique to continue my family legacy as a Jayhawk.”

Tanner was a highly sought-after prospect in the transfer portal as he received offers and heavy interest from BYU, Houston, Kansas State, Fresno State, and Northwestern. As a true freshman this fall, Tanner started a handful of games and earned some impressive grades from Pro Football Focus.

With his commitment, the Jayhawks have now landed seven prospects this offseason, including Tanner, Ball State’s Cam Pickett, Northwest Missouri State’s DeAndre Harper, South Alabama’s Laith Marjan, Auburn’s Gage Keys, Oklahoma State’s Lyrik Rawls, and Alabama’s Jalil Hurley.

Tanner finished his thoughts by saying, “KU fans can expect a tough, smart, and driven offensive lineman who wants to continue a family legacy of success at KU and will give his all every day.”
