While the Deion Sanders experiment at Colorado appeared to be a brutal decision in the 2023 season, Coach Prime flipped the script in 2024.
He led the Buffaloes to the Alamo Bowl with a 9-3 overall record, which now has everyone searching for the next Deion Sanders.
Could that coach be legendary NFL quarterback Michael Vick? Norfolk State seems to think so, as the program elected to interview Vick for their coaching vacancy this fall.
“Speaking from his Florida home, Vick told The Virginian-Pilot and Daily Press that he has spoken with university president Javaune Adams-Gaston and Spartans athletic director Melody Webb and that he expects resolution ‘soon,’” the Virginia Pilot’s David Teel wrote. “Vick said Norfolk State officials reached out to him and that he is intrigued by the potential opportunity of giving back to the Hampton Roads community that has long supported him.”
Vick does not have any prior head coaching experience but has been an active analyst in Chiefs training camp alongside his former NFL coach, Andy Reid. With Sanders finding lightning in a bottle and changing the culture in Boulder, Norfolk State likely views Vick in a similar coaching vein if he can get the right staff around him.
“I know how to lead, and I know what it takes,” Vick mentioned. He also outlined his plans to bring in a seasoned staff with experience to get the team up to speed.
