With the news on Wednesday that Netflix was set to launch a series based around the SEC football season, it came to light during the afternoon that six SEC teams, including three former Big 12 teams, elected to not participate.
According to Action Network‘s Brett McMurphy, Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas, along with Georgia, Alabama and Ole Miss, all passed on participating in the series.
Per the Netflix release, “Produced by Box To Box Films, the powerhouse production company behind Sprint, Full Swing, Formula 1: Drive to Survive, and Break Point, the docuseries will bring viewers everywhere from the field and the locker rooms to the team buses, barbershops, and more.”

Over the course of eight 45-minute episodes, viewers will gain unprecedented access to the players and coaches that make their favorite (and rival) teams forces to be reckoned with. The series is executive produced by James Gay-Rees, Paul Martin, and Hillary Olsen for Box to Box, with showrunner Collin Orcutt.
“This behind-the-scenes docuseries will bring all the drama and pageantry of Southeastern Conference Football to a worldwide Netflix audience,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey told Netflix.
Something tells me that Netflix won’t be exploring the SEC’s continued decision to stay with an eight-game conference schedule or their mid-November cupcake.
