While the Arizona State Sun Devils are the lone representative of the Big 12 Conference in the 2024 College Football Playoff, a recent poll shows Big 12 fans around the country rooting against Kenny Dillingham’s group.

Data tracked by the use of each team-specific hashtag on social media shows that most Big 12 states are rooting for teams other than the Sun Devils to win the National Championship.

The Big 12 features a collection of 10 states with 16 different members league-wide. The group includes West Virginia, Ohio, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona.

The Sun Devils are represented by just one state in America, their home state of Arizona. As for Kansas, Colorado, Utah, and Iowa, the four have chosen to ride with the likely underdog story of Ashton Jeanty and the Boise State Broncos.

Despite having four different Big 12 teams in the state, Texas has swung in favor of the in-state Longhorns. Florida has elected to cheer for the Georgia Bulldogs, while West Virginia and Ohio have joined the Ohio State bandwagon.

Arizona State, while listed as the four-seed in the College Football Playoff bracket, has developed into one of the best stories in college football history this season. Their Big 12 title win went down in history as the sixth-greatest upset of all-time in sports betting history, just trailing the U.S. National Hockey team’s Miracle on Ice.
