No team in the country has improved its roster like Texas Tech since the transfer portal opened last week, and on Thursday, they added to their spoils yet again.
The Red Raiders’ latest addition is USC transfer running back Quinten Joyner, a former four-star prospect from Manor (TX) High School in the Class of 2023.
At the time, Joyner ranked as high as the No. 4 RB in the nation (247Sports), and now, as a transfer, he ranks as the No. 5 running back and No. 58 overall player in the portal.
In two seasons with the Trojans, Joyner amassed 603 yards (7.4 ypc) and four touchdowns, while also adding 13 receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown through the air.
Joyner is Texas Tech’s 14th addition in the transfer portal cycle since last Monday, which offsets their the 11 players that they lost in that same span, plus some.
The Red Raiders’ class ranks first nationally according to On3, and by a relatively wide margin at this point, with an Index Score of 66. For context, Ole Miss ranks second with a 51 while Kansas, who ranks fourth and is the second-best class in the Big 12, has an Index Score of 24.
Texas Tech has increased its total NIL valuation by a whopping $2.9M and has signed eight four-star transfers in the last 10 days – the rest of the Big 12 has a total of four.
The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, December 9, 2024, and will remain open until Saturday, December 28, with an exception for players on teams who play bowl games after the window closes. According to NCAA data, 2,273 FBS football players entered the transfer portal in 2023-24 school year, with 1,558 (68.5%) undergraduates and 715 (31.5%) graduate transfers. Of the entrants, 57% reported that they enrolled in another school, 8% withdrew their names from the portal, and 35% are still active, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport.
