NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper took it upon himself to release an updated list, ranking the Top 25 NFL Draft prospects ahead of the College Football Playoff.
The list featured several Big 12 athletes in its ranks, but one stood out above the rest, with Colorado’s Travis Hunter being named the top prospect in his class.
“Hunter has a great feel for the game on offense and defense, and he has played a whopping 1,356 snaps over 12 games this season,” Kiper said. “I really think he has a chance to play both sides of the ball early in his pro career and make an impact both ways, though I’m ranking him as a receiver right now. The offensive and defensive coordinators for the team that ultimately drafts him are going to be battling each other to use him.”
Hunter’s historic 2024 season earned him the Heisman Trophy for his dominance as the best player in college football. On offense, Hunter posted 92 grabs for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns. Defensively, the Georgia native established himself as one of the nation’s premier ball hawks with four interceptions, alongside 31 total tackles and a forced fumble.
“Hunter has tremendous hand-eye coordination and elite ball skills,” Kiper continued. “His physical traits and quickness are off the charts, but he also thinks about the game at a high level. He is a highly competitive prospect who works hard to maximize his potential. He had three TD catches and an interception against Oklahoma State in Week 14.”
The 2025 NFL Draft takes place on April 24th-26th in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
