We are now down to eight teams in the College Football Playoff after the first round games ended on Saturday night. And with the quarterfinals set to begin next week, new odds have been released on who has the best chance to win the College Football Playoff.
At the top of the list is the Texas Longhorns, who beat Clemson 38-24 on Saturday in Austin. And at the bottom of the list? The Arizona State Sun Devils from the Big 12. Coincidentally, the two teams play each other in the Peach Bowl next week.

Here’s a looks at the odds from BetOnline, heading into the CFP quarterfinals.
2024-25 College Football Championship Winner
Texas: 3/1
Ohio State: 7/2 (+350)
Oregon: 4/1
Penn State: 5/1
Notre Dame: 21/4 (+525)
Georgia: 11/2 (+550)
Boise State: 33/1
Arizona State: 55/1
These odds aren’t just based on what the oddsmakers perceive to be Arizona State’s talent level, it’s also about how Arizona State is believed to have the tougher than Boise State, who is the No. 3 seed after winning the Mountain West Conference. Arizona State is the No. 4 seed, but has to first play the team with the best odds to win the National Championship: The Texas Longhorns.
And then, if the Sun Devils were to pull off the upset, they would play the winner of No. 1 Oregon vs. No. 8 Ohio State. Boise State gets the easier draw with Penn State and then the winner of No. 2 Georgia vs. No. 7 Notre Dame.
Arizona State continues to be the biggest Cinderella in the College Football Playoff after being picked to finish 16th in the Big 12 preseason poll. But after finishing 7-2 in the Big 12 and reaching the Big 12 Championship Game, where they rolled Iowa State, the Sun Devils will try to become just the second Big 12 team to ever win a Playoff game, joining TCU in 2022 (51-45 win over Michigan).
Arizona State vs. Texas will be played on Wednesday January 1st, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. CT and air on ESPN.
