Kansas State basketball is in a tough spot right now. The Wildcats have lost three in a row and are 6-5 following their awful 84-65 loss to the Wichita State Shockers on Saturday.
After the game, K-State head coach Jerome Tang suggested he doesn’t see much value in continuing the game against the Shockers, saying after the defeat, “It doesn’t do anything for us.”
On Sunday, Wichita State’s account posted this on X.
That got former K-State star Markquis Nowell to reply on X.
Nowell is right. Saturday’s win for the Shockers was their first over Kansas State since 2001 and it was Wichita State’s first non-conference win over a Power opponent inside Charles Koch Arena since December of 2018.
Jerome Tang has remained un-phased, at least externally, about the slow start for the Wildcats. Following the loss, Tang noted, “We started 2-8 one year [at Baylor] in the conference and ended up going to the Sweet 16 that year… It can change at any time.”
And there was respect on the other side as well, as Wichita State head coach Paul Mills said after the upset win about Tang, “That guy is as good as it gets… He was not AP National Coach of the Year for nothing.”
Well, that’s certainly not how K-State fans feel right now. The Wildcats have a long stretch off before starting Big 12 conference play on December 30th at home against Cincinnati. Tip off is at 6:00 p.m. CST on CBS Sports Network.
