Kenny Dillingham and the Arizona State Sun Devils have just over a week to prep for their Peach Bowl matchup with the Texas Longhorns, but there’s work to do on the recruiting trail as well.
Over a dozen Sun Devils have already entered the transfer portal, and even though Dillingham is open and willing to help those guys find better opportunities, he also has to build a roster for 2025 and beyond.
The good news is that ASU is picking up some good momentum through the portal and has just won one of their biggest battles to date. Washington State freshman safety Adrian Wilson was one of the hottest names in the country when he entered the transfer portal. He received interest from programs like Georgia, Miami, and Missouri, and he has even visited the latter two schools in recent days.
However, the Sun Devils ended up winning out, getting a commitment from the Cougars’ fourth-leading tackler (47 total) on Monday morning.
Wilson is Arizona State’s sixth commitment of the cycle, following Army transfer running back Kanye Udoh, who committed to the Sun Devils over the weekend and is expected to compete for the starting running back spot after Cam Skattebo’s eligibility is exhausted at the end of their season.
The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, December 9, 2024, and will remain open until Saturday, December 28, with an exception for players on teams who play bowl games after the window closes. According to NCAA data, 2,273 FBS football players entered the transfer portal in 2023-24 school year, with 1,558 (68.5%) undergraduates and 715 (31.5%) graduate transfers. Of the entrants, 57% reported that they enrolled in another school, 8% withdrew their names from the portal, and 35% are still active, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport.
