The Colorado Buffaloes will be playing the BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl this week, and head coach Deion Sanders has taken pride in discussing that his players are all planning to play in the bowl game.
In the College Football Playoff era, many top players on teams not playing the Playoff have elected to skip the bowl game to protect their bodies ahead of being selected in the NFL Draft.
But Coach Prime made a decision that allows each guy to get on the field: Disability insurance.

“It was his idea we should get disability insurance for our athletes for this game to ensure that they played and if there was some kind of injury that they would be well taken care of,” Colorado AD Rick George said of Sanders. “So, we worked together on that. We’re excited about it, we think it’s great that all our players are playing in the game. That’s what all bowl games should be like.”
This is great for Colorado and for the entire college football landscape. Now, fans will get to see superstars like Heisman winner Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who both are likely to be high first round NFL Draft picks, take the field one more time as Buffaloes.
Hunter and Sanders, specifically, have historic insurance policies, according to their head coach. No specific number was shared, but it’s fair to say that both guys will be taken care of, if God forbid the worst happens.

“We have a multitude of players that are draftable, that they received a draft grade,” Deion Sanders said. “They had visibility (insurance) all season long, we want to make insure that if something were to happen, they would cover it.”
“We happen to have two players that are probably going to be the first two picks of the NFL Draft. We all know who those two are and they have received, I think, the highest number of coverage that has ever been covered in college football. It far exceeds anyone that has ever played this game of college football,” Sanders added.
This will help the TV ratings and also help make sure Colorado fans show up in full force to San Antonio on Friday. Kick off is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
