After a 38-24 win over No. 12 seed Clemson, No. 5 Texas (12-2) is headed to the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl to face the fourth-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils (11-2), the champions of the Big 12.
The two programs had only met one time in the 2007 Holiday Bowl when Colt McCoy led the Longhorns to a 52-34 win over Rudy Carpenter and the Sun Devils.
Bevo, the live mascot for the University of Texas, was in attendance for that game, at least, he was for the first quarter before making an early exit. But, even that quarter of action is more than he’ll get for the rematch between UT and ASU.
On Monday, the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl made an announcement concerning whether or not Bevo will be permitted to attend the game.
“We love all of the great traditions of college football and no doubt, Bevo is one of the best, but the unfortunate reality is there is simply not enough room on the sidelines of Mercedes-Benz Stadium,” the bowl game announced.
“With the constraints of the stadium and prioritizing the safety of Bevo, the players, all of the network cameras, support staff, cheerleaders, and photographers, we unfortunately will not be able to have Bevo on the field at the CFP Quarterfinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.”
Texas is heavily favored in the matchup, opening up with a 12.5-point line on Sunday, and has already swelled to a 14-point favorite as of Monday afternoon.
Texas (12-2) and Arizona State (11-2) are set to kickoff at 12:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA.
