TCU quarterback Josh Hoover etched his name in the history books on Saturday, becoming the team’s single-season passing yards leader in 2024.

A 20-yard completion to senior wideout JP Richardson earned him the No. 1 spot in TCU Football’s history.

Hoover, a 6-foot-2 sophomore from Heath, Texas, set the single-season record against Louisiana in the New Mexico Bowl. He threw for 218 yards in the first half, going 17-25 with three passing touchdowns.

Hoover passed TCU legend Trevone Boykin, who threw for 3,901 yards in 2014. He also passed now third-place quarterback Max Duggan, who tossed nearly 3700 yards in his 2022 campaign as a Heisman finalist.

His impressive play this season led the Horned Frogs to an 8-4 overall record, capped off with an impressive showing in the New Mexico Bowl. The Texas native entered Saturday’s matchup 204 yards off of the record, with 3,697 passing yards in the regular season.

After taking over for Chandler Morris as a redshirt freshman in 2023, Hoover got off to a hot start in his first year as a starter. He threw for more than 2,200 yards last season with a touchdown to interception ratio of 15-9.

In his record-breaking pace this fall, Hoover nearly doubled his freshman output with more than 3,900 yards and brought his completion percentage up from 62.%1 to 66.7%.

The Horned Frogs lead Louisiana at halftime in Albuquerque 27-0.
