Due to a poor performance in the Las Vegas Bowl, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko provided some incredible quotes about the Aggies’ struggles.
After blowing a 17-point lead to USC, Elko mentioned that Texas A&M “has no concept of what we’re doing.”
Elko’s squad surrendered 295 yards and four touchdowns through the air to sophomore signal caller Jayden Maiava. That included seven grabs for 127 yards and three touchdowns to USC’s Ja’Kobi Lane.
“I think the story of the game is the story of our season,” Elko said. “We can’t cover the forward pass well enough to be a good football team, and so that’s my fault.”
“Yeah, I have a lot of apprehension when the other team’s going to drop back and throw the ball,” Elko continued. “I’ve had apprehension all season, starting with Florida, we got lucky. Starting with Missouri, we got lucky. LSU threw for 400 yards. It’s been a problem all season. So it’s on me, and I’ve got to fix it.”
Elko finished his thoughts by saying, “So many things. Fundamentally. We can’t play zone coverage. Every time we play zone coverage, we give up big plays. So, we have no concept of space. We have no concept of zone coverage. We have no concept of what we’re doing.”
Elko finished off his first year in College Station at 8-5, continuing the team’s middle-of-the-pack mentality since leaving the Big 12 Conference.
