Following a brutal loss to BYU in the 2024 Alamo Bowl, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders reflected on his impact in Boulder.
He mentioned establishing a foundation of solid football in Boulder, a team that recorded nine wins for the first time since 2016.
“It felt great representing Colorado and bringing it back to where it was in the past,” Sanders said. “We kind of, I’ll say, relayed the foundation of the program, so now it’s able for the other players coming in to take off and pick up where we left off.”
Led by athletes like Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, the Buffaloes outperformed expectations and made a seismic turnaround. After a 4-8 start to the Deion Sanders era in 2023, the Buffaloes bounced back with a 9-4 record.
“I think time away will because right now we’re all in this situation, and we just came from a loss, so that’s kind of what’s on the forefront of our minds,” Sanders continued. “But I would say within the next week, when we’re all separated when we’re all not together anymore, then I feel like I’ll go back and be able to think about those times.”
Despite a sour finish to the 2024 season with a 36-14 loss to BYU, Sanders and Hunter depart the team as two of the program’s top athletes of all-time.
