Ahead of the next round of College Football Playoff games, Pro Football Focus College graded each quarterback in the playoff field.
In what came as a shock to those not familiar with the Big 12, Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt sat at the top of the list with the best PFF grade.
Leavitt received a 90.3 PFF grade, ahead of Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel (89.9), Penn State’s Drew Allar (85.6), Notre Dame’s Riley Leonard (84.7), Ohio State’s Will Howard (84.2), Boise State’s Maddux Madsen (75.9), Texas’ Quinn Ewers (71.9), and Georgia’s Gunner Stockton (N/A).
One particular quarterback graded near the bottom, Texas’ Quinn Ewers, caught a shot earlier in the week from PFF’s top-rated quarterback. Ahead of Arizona State’s matchup vs. Texas in the Peach Bowl, Leavitt called out Ewers by stating his intention to prove himself as the best quarterback in the game.
“Yeah, I’ve watched him for a fair amount of time now,” Leavitt said about Ewers. “I’m just excited for the opportunity. People have kept counting me out since Day One, and I’m going to prove why I’m the better quarterback. That’s how I feel since Day One. I’m gonna go put everybody on the map.”
Shortly after Leavitt’s comments went viral, Ewers was asked to respond at a Texas press conference.
“Yeah, I mean, I saw it,” Ewers said. “And just congrats to them on a great year and great season. I’ve got to watch some of their games, and he’s a talented player, and they’re a fun offense to watch. Just excited to be up against them.”
Leavitt and Ewers will clash to determine which quarterback is the best on the playing field on Wednesday, January 1st, at 12:00 p.m. central.
