Former Big 12 Player and Coach Takes New Job

NCAA Football: Texas Tech at North Carolina State

Former Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell has a new position in college athletics after being hired as Abilene Christian’s new offensive coordinator.

Harrell, a former star in the Big 12 Conference, was also recently selected as a Hall of Fame inductee for the College Football Hall of Fame.

Harrell was one of college football’s best quarterbacks during his career in Lubbock and still holds multiple individual NCAA records. He threw for 15,793 yards from 2005-2008 with a touchdown to interception ratio of 134-34. He led the Red Raiders to 37 total wins in his four-year career, with an average win total of 9.25 per season.

As a coach, Harrell has spent time in various positions with Oklahoma State, North Texas, USC, West Virginia, and Purdue. The former Red Raider held the offensive coordinator positions for North Texas, USC, West Virginia, and most recently, Purdue, where he was fired after four games with the program.

Despite his collegiate heroics, Harrell went undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft. He would eventually wind up in the Canadian Football League, playing quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, before finding his way to the NFL as a member of the Green Bay Packers practice squad in 2010.

He inherits an ACU offense that was explosive in 2024, leading the team to a championship win in the UAC title game. The group finished 9-5 overall with an impressive conference record of 7-1.
