Deion Sanders‘ NFL coaching ties appear to be on the verge of expanding, with the Buffaloes looking toward a Pro Football Hall of Fame running back to take over as the team’s new running back coach.
NFL legend Marshall Faulk is the latest name to surface in Colorado’s search, according to a report from BuffZone’s Brian Howell.
“BuffZone has learned through a source that former college and NFL great Marshall Faulk is the top candidate to become the Buffs’ new running backs coach,” Howell wrote. “Faulk would replace Gary Harrell, who is no longer with the Buffs.”
While Faulk may not have any collegiate coaching experience, he brings a wealth of knowledge to Boulder from his playing career. During his college days at San Diego State, Faulk recorded more than 4,500 rushing yards and 57 total touchdowns. He was listed as a Heisman finalist in each of his final seasons in 1992 and 1993.
After being selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft, Faulk went on to dominate the NFL ranks as a member of the Indianapolis Colts and, later, the St. Louis Rams. In his 12-year career, the legendary running back stacked loads of accolades, including NFL MVP, Rookie of the Year, and three straight titles as the league’s Offensive Player of the Year. He finished his career with 12,279 rushing yards and 136 total touchdowns.
In the event that he is hired in Boulder, Faulk would join the coaching industry after spending the last few years in the financial and men’s health space.
