Big 12 Basketball Program Gets First Portal Commitment of 2025

Steve Lutz and the Oklahoma State Cowboys have picked up their first commitment of the 2025 cycle with Mississippi State transfer Kanye Clary, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Listed at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, Clary played in just seven games for the Bulldogs in 2024-25 and averaged 6.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.1 steals.

Before his lone season in the SEC, however, Clary was one of the most prolific scorers in the Big Ten.

Clary was a four-star prospect in the 2022 class and signed with Penn State out of high school. He was with the Nittany Lions for two seasons, and as a sophomore, he started 20 games and averaged 16.7 points per while shooting 38% from three-point range.

He scored 20 or more points in 10 games, and had double digits in all but five games for the Nittany Lions, including a huge 27-point performance to lead Penn State past Wisconsin.

He was ultimately dismissed from the program in 2024, which has now resulted in a lawsuit against PSU, and transferred to Mississippi State, where he made four starts and played in seven games. However, a lower-leg injury forced him to miss most of the season, leading him to enter the portal.

Oklahoma State finished with a 17-18 overall record in Steve Lutz’s first season and will look to build off a promising two-game run in the NIT Tournament last month.
